A winter wonderland surprise proposal at Garden of the Gods
After some research, Josh knew that his surprise proposal at Garden of the Gods during their January trip to CO was going to be epic. Josh and Brittany had been planning their trip to Colorado for months, and they couldn’t wait to finally arrive at Garden of the Gods on a beautiful January morning. This was a special trip for the couple, as Brittany had just graduated nursing school and Josh had surprised her with plane tickets to celebrate.
Colorado is a special place for Josh and Brittany, as they had been coming to the state for years and had always been enchanted by its rugged beauty. In fact, they had even talked about making Colorado their home someday. So when Josh decided to propose at Garden of the Gods, he knew it would be the perfect location.
As a professional Colorado elopement photographer, I was honored when Josh reached out to me about two months before the trip. We spent months discussing the details, from the perfect location to the best time of day for the proposal. Josh was particularly concerned with finding a spot that was private and secluded, as he wanted the proposal to be intimate and special. I’ve been to the park many times and know what areas to avoid if you’re wanting privacy.
On the day of the proposal, everything was set in motion. The plan was for a sunrise proposal, but when we arrived at the park, we found that it had snowed the night before and the gates weren’t scheduled to open until 10:30am. Alex and I arrived at the gates at 7am, just waiting for them to open, and ready to communicate with Josh about any changes to the plan.
Despite the unexpected snowfall, the scenery was absolutely breathtaking. All the bushes, evergreen trees, and red rocks were covered in a blanket of freshly fallen snow. It was a magical sight and made for some truly stunning photos. Brittany’s favorite season is winter so it was especially perfect for them!
When the gates finally opened, Josh and Brittany made their way to the spot we had selected for the proposal. It was a secluded area with a view of the park’s iconic red rocks. Josh got down on one knee and pulled out the ring he had been carrying with him since July. Brittany said yes, and the two of them embraced, surrounded by the beauty of Garden of the Gods.
After Josh and Brittany’s beautiful surprise proposal at Garden of the Gods, we took some time to capture some stunning engagement photos around the park. The snow-covered landscape made for a truly romantic setting, and the snow stayed on the trees for hours thanks to the foggy morning. We had initially hoped to see the views of Pikes Peak, but unfortunately the clouds kept the visibility poor and we weren’t able to catch a glimpse of the iconic mountain. Despite this small disappointment, the snow-covered scenery more than made up for it and we were able to capture some truly beautiful photos of the happy couple.
It was a truly magical morning, filled with love and emotion. As a photographer, it was an honor to capture this surprise proposal at Garden of the Gods, and these special moments for Josh and Brittany. I know that these photos will be treasured for a lifetime and serve as a reminder of this unforgettable day.
As Josh and Brittany begin the next chapter of their lives together, I can’t wait to see what the future holds for them. Who knows, maybe someday they’ll even make Colorado their home. I’m just so happy we were able to pull of this surprise proposal at Garden of the Gods for them!
