Kat + Luke’s Leadville, Colorado Elopement
In the crisp embrace of a fall morning in Leadville, Colorado, I found myself at the trailhead with Kat, Luke, and their two fur babies, Luna and Panda. The clock’s cruel joke read 2:30 am—dark, frosty, but our spirits were as high as the mountains that surrounded us. The rendezvous happened under a blanket of stars, setting the stage for an adventure that felt like we stumbled into the most exclusive midnight party in the mountains.
The adventure kicked off with a 3-mile hike, a pit stop at the Interlaken House for Luke’s change of attire. Kat, feeling the chill, made the savvy call to keep all her layers on until we reached the lake—no arguments there, it was downright freezing! As we hiked, Kat showcased her genius by rocking heatless curlers in her hair throughout the entire journey—a stroke of adventure elopement brilliance!
Arriving at their chosen spot which was along the shore of the Twin Lakes, a cozy picnic blanket unfolded, where the two of them cozied up. They savored hot coffee, the brisk air harmonizing with the breathtaking views of Mt Elbert. It was a simple, practical choice that added an extra touch of warmth and style to their mountain adventure. I absolutely love it when my couples really lean into the small details that make their day special. For these two, just sitting next to the lake with their hot coffee, their dogs, and their personalized mugs made the day feel like theirs.
To ward off the morning chill and await the sun’s grand entrance, Kat and Luke kicked off with a remarkable first dance—a legit waltz. Picture this: the golden light peeking through as they twirled and swayed, creating a dance floor out of nature’s stage. And just as the two were ready to read their vows to one another, the sun made its grand entrance, casting an alpenglow on the mountain backdrop that stole the show. Think of it as nature’s way of saying, “This is how you get married!”
Their vows, exchanged amidst the breathtaking alpenglow, were more than promises; they were a love song sung by the mountains. And let’s not forget, this was an intimate affair—no audience, no frills, just the two of them and Mother Nature holding space.
Post-ceremony, amidst the golden morning light and the penny-like aspen leaves, we snapped more portraits. The journey back to the cars? A stroll through a golden aspen tunnel, Fall in Colorado showing off its prettiest characteristics.
The grand finale took place at a picnic table, where Kat and Luke delved into heartfelt letters, all while nibbling on a Taste of Palisade charcuterie board. It was a beautiful day, filled with love, and laughter against the canvas of Colorado’s enchanting landscape. Kat and Luke, the definition of a badass couple, created a day that read like a love story written by the mountains themselves. And honestly, I wouldn’t have wanted to be anywhere else.
My favorite part of the day? Right after Kat and Luke finished up their vows, and had their first kiss, they turned around and witnessed the alpenglow that was the backdrop of their private vow reading. The look of surprise and happiness on their faces made me feel so happy. That moment right there is why I do this job. The moment I get to see that look on my couples faces. The look of seeing something magical.

I love what I do….
and so do they
“Honestly I don’t even know where to begin, or how to convey how wonderful Kelly’s planning and photography is. We booked an elopement from out of state (Arkansas) with no idea of what to expect, but I’m so happy we decided to book with Kelly! (This was my first time in Colorado.) We received detailed information on how to plan and make decisions regarding our elopement, as well as the most breathtaking photos I’ve ever seen. Before choosing a location we did the provided questionnaire, which was actually a super fun/romantic date night for us. Kelly helped us choose an amazingly fun and gorgeous location, and helped us navigate a dog friendly elopement. She was insanely good at posing/suggestions, as well as photographing the natural moments and making a comfortable environment. This will be everything you want and more for your elopement.” – Renee
