Shoyia and Wes’ ten year wedding anniversary was coming up, so the two of them planned a special get away just the two of them, sans kids, to Telluride for the special occasion – a Telluride winter vow renewal. This trip was not only planned for their ten year anniversary, but it would also serve as their honeymoon as they never took one in the ten years of their marriage! This would be both of theirs first time to Colorado, and I was so excited to show them around the town of Telluride, and document their morning renewing their vows.
The day started with meeting at their hotel. Then we drove over to a trailhead with beautiful mountain views. On the way to the trailhead we saw a herd of elk, and a family of coyotes! These two were already getting the full Colorado experience! The rest of the drive S + W told me stories of them sledding the night before. It had snowed the night before, blanketing the whole city and the mountains in a dry layer of fluffy snow. They were amazed at how dry the snow was, you could touch it, sit in it, and you wouldn’t get wet. Very different than the east coast snow they’re both used to! We got so lucky with the snow, and the weather. While the temperatures were supposed to be below freezing, the Colorado sun, and the still air kept us comfortable during their vow renewal.

Reading Their Private Vows
We got to the trailhead and stepped out and took in the mountain views. It’s amazing how these views can be right off the side of the road! We then took a short walk down a snow covered trail, but quickly got stopped by a down evergreen. We were planning to keep hiking, but with the snow and the tree, we weren’t going any further down the trail. That was okay though because the trail was lined with tall evergreens and aspens, shading the whole trail, and it was cold! We wanted to be back in the sun! So the two of them decided to say their private vows right on the trail. While the sun peeked through the dense trees, these two reminisced on the past ten years of their marriage, and renewed their wedding vows.
Telluride Mountain Pass Winter Vow Renewal Adventure
Next we went to a mountain pass and did some exploring! I knew if we went high enough up the pass that the mountain views would be incredible. Our plan was to go all the way to a waterfall, but the snowfall the night before made the 4×4 drive up the pass a little sketchy. We didn’t feel comfortable going all the way, so we stopped at one of the switchbacks and jumped out. At this point of the mountain pass you can see the whole town of Telluride. It’s pretty incredible!
