It was such an honor capturing this Garden of the Gods proposal for an old friend. Matt & Grace got engaged next to the snow-covered towering red rocks in Garden of the Gods this past winter. I know Matt from when we worked together years ago at the local grocery store in my hometown. Matt has been following my photography career on social media and has reached out over the years with questions when he started to grow his own photography career. Then he reached out to me months before their planned trip to Colorado and told me about his plans to propose to Grace! Matt originally wanted to propose at Dream Lake in Rocky Mountain National Park, but after following the weather reports we decided to go down in elevation to Garden of the Gods. At higher elevations like at Dream Lake, winter storms are harsh. There is heavy snowfall, roads get icy, and high winds make it an uncomfortable experience. Matt expressed how he didn’t want to be wearing jackets during the pictures so I recommended against going to Dream Lake. His second choice was Garden of the Gods. So I went to the park before the proposal and scouted the best spots for sunrise. Matt told Grace that he set up a photo session with me while they were in town so she wouldn’t be suspicious. We did a normal couples session for a few minutes before Matt got down on one knee! He proposed with a beautiful yellow gold vintage-style diamond ring. It was absolutely gorgeous, and Grace was so surprised. After the proposal, we headed over to another trail in the park to capture more photos of the occasion. It had just snowed the day before so all of the red rocks were blanketed in snow. The backdrop of the mountains, the red rocks, the morning glow, and the snow make it a beautiful setting to capture this special moment. Congratulations to the happy couple, it was an honor to capture this Garden of the Gods proposal!
